Day 3. Beware the devices of satan

    Genesis 2:8-9; 15-17

8 The Lord God planted a garden eastward in Eden, and there He put the man whom He had formed. 9 And out of the ground the Lord God made every tree grow that is pleasant to the sight and good for food. The tree of life was also in the midst of the garden, and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.

15 Then the Lord God took the man and put him in the garden of Eden to tend and keep it. 16 And the Lord God commanded the man, saying, “Of every tree of the garden you may freely eat; 17 “but of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat of it you shall surely die.”

That is “satan” with a little “s” on purpose; he does not deserve the respect of a capital letter. In today’s reading we see an example of the trickery he is willing to use to trip you up. He can make the definitely “off-limit” items to be the most desired of all the things in your mind. Beware! It is a set up. I was walking through the kitchen during one of our previous fasts and there it was, the most gorgeous Lays brand potato chip that I have ever laid my eyes on. He was just sitting there looking . . . all golden and salty and . . . well, you get the idea. It started speaking to me; it started softly with sweet nothings, “Eat me.” I withstood its incredible beauty, but then it began to reason with me, “No one will know, no one even knows I am here!” AHHHHHHH – my brain is exploding!!! Sorry, I was having flashbacks there for a minute. Sounds crazy that something as simple as a chip could be tempting, but satan will use whatever he can to squeeze a wedge in between you and God, especially during the times when you are following hard after Him! Beware; don’t be fooled by his devices!

Day 3. Beware of satan’s plans

Satan slithered into the Garden of Eden and told lies to Adam and Eve. We have to be careful and not listen to what he says. We need to only listen to God.
