Day 19. The beauty of God’s holiness
2 Chronicles 20:20-21
20 So they rose early in the morning and went out into the Wilderness of Tekoa; and as they went out, Jehoshaphat stood and said, “Hear me, O Judah and you inhabitants of Jerusalem: Believe in the Lord your God, and you shall be established; believe His prophets, and you shall prosper.” 21 And when he had consulted with the people, he appointed those who should sing to the Lord, and who should praise the beauty of holiness, as they went out before the army and were saying: “Praise the Lord, For His mercy endures forever.”
This is one of my favorite stories in the whole Bible, the worshippers going out in front of the warriors. The instructions are given for the whole nation by King Jehoshaphat in verse 20, but those who could do it were identified in verse 21. Look closely at it; he asked around about those who had a reputation of worship, he “consulted with the people.” “Hey,” he might have said, “Who do you know that is the best of the best when it comes to worshipping?” “I mean, your lives will be hanging in the balance of their ability to worship.” At least that is how I would have consulted the people. He found the “kats” who understood the God of the description, not just understood the description of the God. He found those who could worship when all things were great and when all things were bad.
Oh, Lord, make us today to become those who worship You because we have come to understand the beauty of Your holiness. Those who understand that it is both a fearful and beautiful thing to stand so close to you that Your Beauty overwhelms us and causes praise to erupt from deep within us. Teach us to fight the battles of the Spirit world with the praises of our lips and the promises which You have bestowed upon those who fear You. Yes, Lord, today teach me to worship You in the Beauty of Your Holiness!!!!
